Watch the credit scene

Starting this series of posts somewhat backward. Several months ago I was asked to be the solo developer for a completely new version of the game for Baby Barbarian. Looking back, I may have been a tad ambitious as usual, but that’s part of who I am, and I don’t regret for a second jumping in head first at the opportunity.

Initially, I wanted to work on a solo project at some point because I felt as if it would be one of the best ways to learn and broaden my skill set as a Unity Developer. Luckily for me, the creator of Baby Barbarian called me up to see if I was interested in taking on the role. I'm not sure if he called because he had faith in me or maybe I was the only person willing to take the role. Either way, I could never have expected to learn as much as I did from start to finish.

From my past experiences living abroad in China, I find that sometimes the best way for me to learn is to jump into the deep end and then figure out what the hell I got myself into later. And without hesitation, that is exactly what I did, 0 to 100.

I went in with the game plan and the intention of using this opportunity to strengthen my ability to code, improve my organization, continue to develop my knowledge about the Unity Animator, learn about sound implementation, and just create a game on my own.

I came out learning far more than I had initially planned. And I mean a freaking lot. By the end of this project, I don’t know if I even classify myself as a Unity developer. I swear I spent more time in the adobe suite than in Unity. I learned some of the ins and out’s of photoshop, premiere pro, and audition through trial and error and research. (Credit scene was created through a mix of Photoshop, Premiere, and Audition)

I won’t go too into detail regarding the project because I plan on making a few more posts about the process. For any developer looking to improve their skillset and knowledge, I can’t think of a better way to learn.
